With having so many options to live in the US, one may have the option of Boston, but it super cold! and in July it is hot. So my question, if more than 8 months of the year the weather is not good, yet Boston has sooo much to offer, is it worth it moving there? how are people there? Nice or not nice? lol
I live in Boston, and I think the people are really nice. You'll get your mixture of people in cities, and you can't speak for everyone, but I think people are nice. The winter sucks, yeah, I'd agree, but Christmastime is always beautiful. Summer is hot indeed, but there are ways to cool off! Community sailing is one of them, and there are lessons if you don't know how to sail! Springtime is still a little chilly, but once it warms up it's gorgeous. Fall is my favorite time of year. Nothing is like New England in fall, with the leaves falling and fresh apples…I can't even really describe it. if you're thinking of moving to Boston, seriously consider it, because it's wonderful. it has everything a big city has to offer on a smaller scale, yet you won't really miss a big city.
Jan – cold and snowy, temps in the 20's and 30's, we had about 3 big snow storms this past year which was unusual, usually we get 1 BIG one and a few small ones
Feb – still cold and snowy
Mar – usually get light patches of snow and its still cold
Apr – rainy, starts to get warmer into the 50's but this year it was cold all the way into May
May – starts to get hot and summery towards the end
Jun – we had a few cold days in June this year but now its nice and warm
Jul – usually hot, gets into the 80's and 90's most days
Aug – hotter
Sep – starts off hot and gets mild toward the end
Oct – we are lucky to get mild weather but sometimes it gets really cold toward the end around halloween
Nov – gets cold into the 40's, sometimes we get snow but snow doesn't start until Dec
Dec – sometimes we don't have a white christmas but its cold none the less
Hope this helped.
I've grown up in the Boston area so i'm sorta used to how people are and i've found people are friendlier other places…more down south. People here just rush rush rush to get where they are going and don't take time to say “hello.” you do get the occasional “excuse me” from a stranger but that's about it.
Boston is not so super cold because the ocean modifies things. and summer is tempered by continual Canadian cold fronts. most winters there are only a few days of real cold (below 10 degrees F); and in summer only about a dozen days of heat above 90 degrees F. Otherwise winter is mostly between 18 degrees F (nights) and 35 degrees F (days, ranging some days to 55 or even 60 degrees, and summer ranges mostly between 65 degrees F (nights) and 86 degrees F (days)..
Boston has a lot to offer, but the weather can be quite weary, especially the winter, which seems to last forever and it is downright cold for months straight
given the opportunity, I'd leave. Boston is a great place to visit in the summer and (early)fall. but winters are brutal. I don't know how many more New England winters I could handle
Well of course it depends on what you look for in a city. I moved to Boston from NC and I'm really glad I did because its an amazing city. Winter is horrible, but I'd say it is definitely worth it.
Heyitswill511 is imagining things. most winters Boston will suffer only one, maybe 2 bad nor'easter snowstorms. The other nor'easters are either rain or snow changed to rain. it is much worse just 20 or 30 miles to the west and north however.
Super cold is a matter of perspective. it all depends on where your coming from. Winters in upstate NY or most anywhere in the mid-west are as cold as Boston. the worst winter weather in the continuous 48 states is upstate NY (Buffalo).
Boston is notorious for storms called Nor'Easters which are essentially a low pressure system pushing moisture off the Atlantic into the cold air mass over the land – effect can mean snow fall in excess of 20″ in less than 24 hours. Depending on the track of the storm it could mean all rain, even in January. For the most part, despite what you may have heard, they know how to clean up snow in New England. The problem becomes what to do with huge amounts of snow in an urban setting like Boston. There is no place to plow it, so they need to put in dump trucks and move out of the city – that takes time. sometimes, like last winter, they ran out of places to dump it. The EPA won't let the city dump it in the ocean, even though it's all going to melt and go there anyway? go figure.
Boston has four distinct seasons. each season lasts about 10 weeks, with fringe periods where one season can make a short appearance when you don't expect it too. Generally speaking, the fall weather begins in mid September and lasts up to and often past Thanksgiving. I often rake my yard for the last time on Thanksgiving weekend.
December is a fringe month, sometimes it gets cold/snowy, sometimes not. Winter doesn't start in earnest until late December and is usually wrapping up by late February, however it is very common to get a big snow (>20″ in a single storm) in March, sometimes April.
If you move here from someplace else every winter when there is a wind chill below 0F and the fine snow is blowing off rooftops in your face you will be asking yourself why you live here. then come the spring, summer and fall you will love it – then another winter will sneak up on you. if you have a big yard full of leaves you won't be to happy about the 3rd year of raking either (course you can pay somebody to rake the leaves).
If you live in Florida it will be bugs or snakes or hurricanes or some other reason to question why live there. if you live in the midwest the winters are just as a bad (less snow maybe), but you get tornadoes and the heat/humidity plus it's boring, in California you have earthquakes/high cost of living……..no place is perfect, trust me I know.
For long term happiness I'd suggest that living close to your extended family (parents, brothers/sisters, grandparents) is what will ultimately be the best bet – regardless of where that might be.

As soon as the first complaints surfaced about the alleged fragility of the Apple iPhone 4′s stylish glass case, you knew litigation was coming. A California iPhone user, Donald LeBuhn, this week filed a class action suit in Los Angeles county against Apple . The suit claims that Apple knows about the design flaw in the glass case and refuses to warn users that routine use can result in a broken …

iPhone 4 user files lawsuit over cracked screen

LA Weekly reports (via The Next Web) that a class action lawsuit has been filed against Apple over the iPhone 4 and its claimed propensity for breakage. The lawsuit feeds off the “Glassgate” publicity that has seen the iPhone 4 judged to be more accident-prone than other smartphones due to Apple’s use of glass on both the front and back of the device.
Apparently fed up and pissed off, California resident Donald LeBuhn filed a class action lawsuit earlier this week in L.A. County against Apple, claiming the company knows about the design flaw and refuses to warn consumers that “normal” use leads essentially to a broken phone.
According to his lawsuit, first reported by Courthouse News Service, LeBuhn threw down $252 in September for a new iPhone 4, but three weeks later the glass broke when his daughter accidentally dropped it approximately three feet to the ground while sending a text message.
He previously owned a 3GS version of the iPhone and claims the glass did not break when accidentally dropped from similar heights.
In his filing, LeBuhn cites Apple marketing materials for the iPhone 4, which claim that the “ultradurable” glass used in the iPhone 4 is “20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic”. According to LeBuhn, these claims are misleading at best, and his suit seeks full refunds for customers covered by the class action suit and reimbursement for any repairs made.
