In case there was any doubt about the increased horsepower found in the iPad 2, our sister site Touch Arcade has posted a video demonstrating a forthcoming update to Firemint’s Real Racing 2 HD that will bring support for full 1080p video out while also driving a separate display on the iPad itself.
Using the video out feature of an iPad 2, Real Racing 2 HD will be able to be displayed on a big screen in full 1080p resolution while the device’s 10-inch touchscreen shows a track map and race statistics.
This is the first indication we’ve seen of an iOS game taking advantage of the iPad 2′s ability to render out at a full 1920×1080 HD resolution. On an HDTV, Real Racing 2 HD will run full screen with no black borders and at native 1080p resolution, without scaling.
According to Firemint, Real Racing 2 HD runs at a “silky smooth” 30 frames per second in this mode with precision control for a more console-like gaming experience than ever. Apple has touted the iPad 2 as offering up to twice the CPU performance and up to nine times the graphics performance of its predecessor, opening the door for significantly improved app performance, particularly when it comes to fast-action gaming titles.
While the iPad 2 now offers users the option to output content through the TV out adapters in 1080p via upscaling, Real Racing 2 HD appears to be the first app set to debut the combination of native 1080p video out while driving a second display on the iPad itself.
It is unknown exactly when the new feature will make its debut, as Firemint has only said that it is coming in the “next major update” to Real Racing 2 HD.

In a rather unusual move, Apple today seeded the first developer version of Mac OS X 10.6.6, known as Build 10J521, even before the company has publicly released Mac OS X 10.6.5.
As 9 to 5 Mac notes, there are no documented known issues in the build and the seed notes mention a focus on support for the forthcoming Mac App Store.

Interestingly, the Mac OS X 10.6.6 update is only 3.7 MB in size, suggesting only very minor tweaks at this point.
The unusual early seeding of Mac OS X 10.6.6 relative to its predecessor and the apparent requirement of Mac OS X 10.6.6 for certain Mac App Store functions suggest that Apple is likely fast-tracking the operating system update for release in the not-so-distant future.
Apple announced during its October 20th media event that the Mac App Store would launch on Mac OS X Snow Leopard within 90 days, and just yesterday the company began accepting submissions from developers for inclusion in the Mac App Store.

Along with announcing iOS 4.1 and the forthcoming iOS 4.2 for the iPad, Apple announced all-new iPod models at today’s keynote event.
The new iPod shuffle will see the return of buttons and will still include the VoiceOver feature that debuted in the last Shuffle model. It also has playlists capability and will take advantage of the Genius Playlists recently introduced. It will have 15 hours of battery life and will come in 5 colors: silver, pink, gold, blue, and green. The 2 GB Shuffle will cost $49.
The iPod nano has also been updated, removing the click wheel and adding a multi-touch interface to reduce the device’s overall size. The new nano is 46% smaller than its predecessor and will have 24-hour battery life.
The nano’s new touch interface is similar to that of other iOS devices with a home screen populated with icons to access photos, artists, playlists, control playback, and more. The display’s orientation can be manually rotated to accommodate the device’s position when clipped to clothing. The nano will come in graphite, pink, blue, silver, green, gold, and a Product Red version will also be offered. It will cost $149 for 8 GB and $179 for 16 GB.
Finally, the next generation of the iPod touch includes the Retina Display with 324 pixels per inch that made its debut on the iPhone 4. The new iPod touch will also get Apple’s A4 chip, a 3-axis gyroscope, a rear-facing camera that can record HD video, and a front-facing camera that will work with Facetime. The iPod touch will have iOS 4.1 with Apple’s Game Center and will offer 40 hours of music playback battery life. The iPod touch will cost $229 for the 8 GB model, $299 for 32 GB, and $399 for 64 GB.
All new iPod models will be available starting next week and are available for pre-order on Apple’s site today.
