BGR provides photos of an iPhone prototype that supports T-Mobile USA’s 3G service.
Thats right, youre looking at photos of an iPhone prototype with T-Mobile USA 3G bands. The actual internal model is N94, and if you remember, the Verizon model is N92 while the standard GSM variant is N90. We have verified that the phone itself is running a test version of Apples iOS, much like the one we saw in those videos from Vietnam, and it includes internal Apple test apps like Radar and Apples employee directory app.
The T-Mobile US network uses different frequencies than AT&T’s, requiring different hardware to support. It’s not clear what this will mean given that AT&T is planning to acquire T-Mobile USA, though that transaction will take some time before it goes into effect. In the meanwhile, T-Mobile continues to operate as an independent carrier in the U.S.

IDG News reports that Intel has announced that it will release developer kits for Thunderbolt, its new high-speed data connection standard, sometime this quarter, accelerating deployment of the standard that so far has been limited to Apple’s new MacBook Pro and a small handful of peripherals companies.
Intel is already working with some partners to develop products as it tries to build out an ecosystem around the interconnect. LaCie and Western Digital have already demonstrated portable storage products, but are not yet selling devices. Companies including Canon have announced support for Thunderbolt, and products from AJA, BlackMagic, Matrox and Sonnet are being shown at the NAB trade show, which is going on in Las Vegas through April 14.
According to the report, Sony is also firmly behind the standard but has yet to announce plans for bringing it to its products. Other computer manufacturers such as HP are continuing to evaluate Thunderbolt before committing to it.
High-speed data transfer protocols such as Thunderbolt are of course key for moving large files quickly, meaning that the standard will likely play an integral role as power users gear up with the latest hardware and look to deploy such cutting edge software as Apple’s forthcoming Final Cut Pro X.

Alongside today’s announcement that its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will be held June 6th-10th in San Francisco, Apple also revealed details on its Apple Design Awards competition, a program designed to recognize applications that “set the standard for excellence” on Apple’s platforms.
Apple received a significant amount of criticism last year for its decision not to offer Apple Design Awards for Mac OS X applications, choosing instead to simply offer awards in iPad and iPhone categories, although the move was apparently simply because Apple wasn’t prepared to begin showing off Mac OS X Lion at that time and thus focused the event primarily on iOS.
Mac developers will be glad to know that Apple has added Mac OS X applications back into the Apple Design Awards this year, preparing to honor applications on both Mac OS X and iOS platforms. One catch, however, is that applications must be included in the App Store by May 23rd in order to be eligible for an award.
Does an app have to be on the App Store to be considered?
Apps must be available on the App Store by May 23, 2011, to be considered for an Apple Design Award.
While the App Store requirement is taken for granted when it comes to iOS applications, it is significant that it is also being applied to Mac OS X applications given the Mac App Store’s relatively recent introduction and myriad of other means of application distribution available to developers. From Apple’s perspective, limiting entries to applications found in the Mac App Store is a good way to continue pushing the marketplace forward, encouraging developers of quality applications to bring their products to the store.
