Web/Reseller Hosting Businness?

On August 19, 2011, in iPhone, by admin

Hello all,
I would like to start a web business.
Which type of Web business is good at present. Basically I am a Developer.
What about reseller hosting business, how long would it take for us to stand and what is the scope of it.

Go to score.org and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. on the next screen, you will find the SCORE chapter nearest you. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor.

SCORE “Counselors to America's Small Business” is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

SCORE was founded in 1964 and is headquartered in Herndon, VA and Washington, DC and has 389 chapters throughout the United States and its territories, with 11,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors. SCORE is America's premier source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs.

I have my developer associates use HostGator.com to start. once they have built up a business, some have moved on as they did research in the marketplace. But the combo of value, service and support is a good mix there.

Note: they all merely provide a hosting solution for their clients. They don't try to offer services to the broad public, as there is always some meatball co. somewhere that will undercut your price. I tell them to build it in the development package with maint. and offer it as a value add. That way the customer knows you keep full control of the site, and are more accessible to them, can make changes faster, and they only have one point of contact and thus don't get their site lost in the shuffle. Also, you aren't trying to collateralize your hosting by up-selling them on every little thing – like GoDaddy!

I and !.com is another good one – until you learn that they has a little clause in their contract that says they can resign up your web address and highjack you to buy it back from them – even after you leave their company. you have to specifically TELL them SPECIFICALLY that you do not want them to do this “on your behalf” which is something that you probably didn't know about in the first place! But their attitude is you should have READ ALL the information that you clicked “I read and accept.”

Do yourself a favor and get a Pre-Paid Legal account in your state and really DO let your attorney's review any agreement (they'll do two free per month) that you intend to enter into. Protect your interest!

I had 60+ web address at 1 and 1. Transferred to HostGator, and got a big surprise at the end of the year. had to do a lot a yelling on the phone to MAKE them not honor something I had agreed to but didn't know was there. at the consumer level it's only a $35 – $75 hit. at the dev'l level it can become a nightmare…

Web Host News – Boston, MA – GMO GlobalSign inc, a specialist in SSL partner programs and security automation technologies, announced results of a survey revealing the challenges SSL resellers face, including an extremely competitive industry, an antiquated workflow, and increasingly complex hosting technical environments requiring flexible SSL technology.  The survey included responses from 240 SSL resellers from the United States and Europe.

The hosting industry is a very competitive market landscape with thousands of companies reselling SSL.  Gaining a competitive edge is extremely difficult, as indicated by the eighty percent of respondents who identified industry competition as the number one challenge to reselling SSL Certificates.  Adding to the challenge is the confusion that seems to surround SSL.  With seventy-five percent of respondents reporting difficulty marketing SSL and sixty-nine percent of respondents reporting a challenge explaining the value proposition, it is clear that customers are still unsure of SSL.  SSL providers, hosting companies, and the press need to continue explaining the significance and benefits of SSL via all channels.

Adding to the confusion surrounding SSL is the slow and error prone lifecycle, which hasn’t changed much since it was created in 1996.  Automation is consistently brought up within reselling circles as a solution to this problem.  when respondents were asked why they would consider implementing an automated solution, almost equal importance was placed on reducing time spent managing SSL and improving delivery speed to customers.  it is clear that both resellers and customers are feeling the consequences of the outdated SSL workflow.

“SSL should be a value-add for hosting companies.  Instead organizations end up spending valuable time and resources managing problems that arise with the current, antiquated SSL workflow,” said Steve Waite, Chief Marketing Officer, GlobalSign.  “It is time for SSL to join the 21st century and automation is the way to do it, which is why we’ve recently launched a revolutionary technology, OneClickSSL, which completely automates the SSL lifecycle, eliminating the support overhead for the reseller thus allowing organizations to focus on their core business and increase their SSL margins.”

Last week, a report surfaced claiming that Apple could launch its annual back-to-school promotion in the United States as early as this week, offering educational customers free or discounted iPod hardware with the purchase of a qualifying Mac product. With it now appearing that the offer will not debut this week, BGR is reporting that Apple may wait until next month’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) to announce the promotion.

One of our Apple sources has informed us that they’ve been hearing Apple’s yearly back-to-school special will be announced at WWDC next month. We have been told Apple will continue to offer educational discounts on computers and either a free iPod touch, or $229 towards the purchase of any other iPod.

The report also indicates that Apple may be preparing to include a $200 discount on the iPad as an option for those participating in the promotion.

Lat year’s promotion offered rebates of up to $199 on Apple’s full line of iPod models, but did not include the iPad. Apple has also never included iPhone discounts in the promotion, which typically runs through early September, around the time the company traditionally introduces new iPods.
