ONEIDA — Blogging gives everyone a voice.“If you don’t think a news service is covering something you find important, you can start a blog and get the information out that you want,” said Dispatch Editor Kurt Wanfried at a blogging community lab over the weekend. “We can only get reporters to so many places.”And it’s even easy. while Wanfried prefers using Blogger, there are an abundance of sites that allow anyone to speak up and have their voice heard on myriad issues, from politics, food, fashion and parenting, to name a few. Some of the sites interested bloggers can check out are WordPress (wordpress.com), Blogger (blogger.com), LiveJournal (livejournal.com) and Xanga (xanga.com).“you could be writing about knitting or how to do geneology or how to fix cars; whatever you can think of can be a topic,” said Wanfried. “That probably wouldn’t find its way to the paper. now we have all this space. That’s the beauty of the Internet: There’s all this space.”the Dispatch already has several bloggers, including Wanfried and the Dispatch’s contributing writer Mike Jaquays, but the paper is always interested in hosting more. the more topics available, the more readers can enjoy.“you used to have to be a bonefide reporter to get stuff out there, and now anyone can do it,” Wanfried said. Those interested in writing a blog for the Dispatch are welcome to contact Wanfried at 363-5100 ext. 137.

In addition, the report shares several tidbits that have been surfacing about iOS 5, most notably brief word that Apple is indeed planning to roll out a “completely revamped” notifications system and “widgets” that would presumably provide quick access to information without the need for launching dedicated apps, much the same as Dashboard widgets in Mac OS X.
The other big news for iOS5 – and yes, I’ve completely buried the lede here, thanks for reading! – two things: completely revamped notifications and widgets.
The iOS notification system has been one of the more highly criticized aspects of the platform, although optimism regarding a potential revamp rose earlier this year amid claims that Apple had acquired an unnamed development firm specifically to assist with the revamp.
As an example of how widgets might be employed, designer Jan-Michael Cart earlier this month released a concept video demonstrating his vision of widgets on iOS.
One other item of interest included in TechCrunch‘s report today is the claim that the Nuance technology rumored to be deeply integrated into iOS 5 will surprisingly not make its way into the Voice Control component of the platform, although things could change between now and the final release of iOS 5 later this year.

Google Voice is finally available for the iPhone.
A Google Voice for iPhone app finally clears Apple’s gauntlet. (Credit: Screenshot by Jessica Dolcourt/CNET) When Google announced Google Voice for iPhone earlier today, we wasted no time putting the VoIP telephony app through its paces. Hands-On: Google Voice for iPhone still slightly underbaked

Google today announced that its official Google Voice [App Store] application for the iPhone is now available.
With this native app, you’ll continue to have access to all the major Google Voice features on your iPhone, like:
- Cheap rates for international calls
- Free text messaging to U.S. numbers
- Voicemail transcription
- Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls
In addition to these benefits, the app provides some features that make using Google Voice on your iPhone a much better experience:
- With push notifications, the app will alert you instantly when you receive a new voicemail or text message
- Most of your calls will be placed via Direct Access Numbers, making them connect just as quickly as regular phone calls
After Apple tweaked its review guidelines for the App Store back in September, it began accepting Google Voice-related applications, and the company reportedly approved the official Google application late that month, but it has not been available until today.
Google and Apple famously squared off over the Google Voice application, with Google claiming that Apple had rejected the application, citing duplication of the core functionality of the iPhone, while Apple claimed that it had merely not made a decision on the application, leaving it limbo for over a year.
